Super Duo Dawkins & Dawkins Snagged Four Nominations For Upcoming 2022 Stellar Awards

The humble Super Duo Dawkins & Dawkins has respect, innovative talent, and longevity in the music industry. The brothers have recently snagged four 2022 Stellar Award Nominations.

Anson Dawkins and Eric Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins) are songwriters, producers, musicians, and vocal arrangers who have contributed to an unprecedented list of platinum-selling, award-winning artists including Commissioned, Mary Mary, Tyrese, Mary J. Blige, CeCe Winans, Christina Aguilera, Tamela Mann, and Toni Braxton. These names are just a few legends that the legends have worked with and there are so many more.

After a 10-year hiatus from releasing their music, the brothers returned in 2021 with an epic series of EP’s called NEVER GETS OLD Vol. 1 & 2 and NEVER GETS OLD HOLIDAY. Vol 1: LOVE & LIGHT features the hit and YouTube video hit “In My Feelings”. Vol 2: FAITH & FAVOR features their newest hit, “Come By Here”. The “Come By Here” Single is #1 on the Mediabase Gospel Radio Chart, and rised to #3 on Billboard/BDS Gospel Radio Chart.

Dawkins & Dawkins are well-known for their timeless FROM NOW ON album and “Need To Know” and “Wrapped Up” hit singles.

Their NEVER GETS OLD series of albums is music for you to add to your summer playlist. Jam to it, worship to it, and bet it “Never Gets Old”.

Congratulations to Dawkins & Dawkins on their longevity in the music industry and Four 2022 Stellar Award Nominations for Duo/Chorus Group of the Year, Producer of The Year, Contemporary Duo/Chorus Group of the Year, and Special Event Album of the Year.

How does it feel to have the “Come By Here” Single be placed at #1 on Mediabase Radio, and rise to #3 Billboard/BDS Gospel Radio Charts?

Anson: It feels fabulous! I’m excited about it.

Eric: I’m just along for the ride and taking in everything that God is allowing to happen for us.

You both are legends in the music industry and have worked with a host of legends as well such as Commissioned, Mary Mary, Tyrese, Quincy Jones, Mary J. Blige, CeCe Winans, Christina Aguilera, Chris Brown, Tamela Mann, Toni Braxton, and many more. I have to ask, what was it like to work with Quincy?

Eric: It’s one of those moments that I call pivotal in my producing career. Just to have him recognize me and ask me to sit beside him to produce a song was mindblowing. At the time I had been singing and writing for a minute, but was kind of new to the production part of music. It was validation. Quincy Jones asked me to do something, I said “I’m on my way”!

Dawkins & Dawkins recently performed on The Road to Roosevelt Tour. What was that experience for you both?

Anson: The headline artist, Anthony Hall was the one that put this together. He and Vgn Bae Entertainment were behind the tour. Roosevelt is his grandfather. Anthony’s project is called Road to Roosevelt, so he called the tour The Road to Roosevelt Tour.

We were there to support him, Jason Nelson, and a few other artists. It was a fun time and we are looking forward to doing some more things with him as well.

You took a 10-year hiatus of releasing your music, then returned in 2021. What was the reason for the hiatus?

Eric: The hiatus was more about us doing life. We both have families and our families are our first ministry. It’s more about that than not wanting to be a part of the music industry because truthfully, we were still doing things in the music industry just behind the scenes writing and producing for some of the names you’ve mentioned earlier. But as far as being in front, being the artist, and wearing the artist hat, we decided to take a moment to regroup, even with the label, and do something different.

People don’t always share the same vision that we have, so for us, we wanted to make sure that the vision lines up. Especially when we put out material that is near and dear to us. We wanted to be able to be with someone who shares the vision and is able to facilitate that as well. It was just a timing thing and we came back when God said it was time to come back.

What are some of the most memorable moments in your career so far?

Anson: We got to start out with Commissioned and Fred Hammond which was a huge thing for us. Just being able to work with and become good friends with different artists and producers led to different things.

Our greatest experiences have been the development of these relationships. Such as with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, who rapped on our first album. Also all the performances we’ve got to do in different settings. They’re all a part of the journey and exciting.

Eric: A fun fact that people may not know is, early on in our career, during the first project, we found out that Wesley Snipes is a Dawkins & Dawkins fan. Not to name drop, but Chanté Moore who we’ve been friends with since our early Commissioned days told us. The guy who she was married to at the time owned a gospel record store. They told us that Wesley came in and brought 15 copies to give to people because he was such a big fan.

Hearing stories like that are great moments. We have a lot of respect in the industry among our peers of artists and producers. Teddy Riley is another big fan of ours and a friend of mine as well. We’ve done some work together. Also Chris Brown, Justin Beiber, Lalah Hathaway, Omarion, and so many others you wouldn’t even think of. Like Anson said, we’ve developed these friendships with them. Anyone that I named I can pick up the phone and call just because we’re friends.

You are so humble because you didn’t even mention your Stellar Award nominations. Congratulations! What was your first reaction when you got the news?

Anson: We’ve been nominated for a Stellar before, but never in multiple categories in the same year. If we can get one nomination we will be pumped and excited, but we were nominated for four and we’re speechless. We’re taking it all in, recognizing God’s goodness and the love of the fans who enjoy and listen to the music. We’re so grateful for that.

What’s next for you?

Eric: I just got a call from a film director whose play I’ve done before. He called me just out of the blue and asked me what I was doing. He had a show idea he wanted to run by me so I’m meeting up with him. When people ask me this question, I jokingly say… I don’t know… you may see us on the big screen. We love to do anything to further the Kingdom because we’re Kingdom-minded. Wherever you see us, just know that we’re doing something to build the Kingdom up and we’re doing the work that God has us doing.

Dawkins & Dawkins will be at the Stellar Awards in Atlanta, GA July 15–16.
